A tour combining the best of south-east Kruger National Parkand the iconic Panorama Route in Mpumalanga is possible, even if you’re pressed for time. Based in the picturesque valley of Hazyview, a professional safari guide will take you to the main attractions in both regions. Southern Kruger National Park is renowned for having higher concentrations of game and you should see the Big 5 aswell as a wide array of birds, antelope and predators. A drive to God’s Window in Graskop takes you on a scenic route through one of the world’s largest man-made forests to a towering escarpment with panoramic views of the fertile valley below and Mozambique in the distance.

Day one
A 4-hour journey to Paul Kruger Gate takes you on a scenic route from the open savanna grasslands of the Highveld to the lush Lowveld valley. Check into Numbi Hotel; enjoy a light lunch and freshen up for an afternoon game drive that departs at 4.30pm. It’s a short drive from the entrance to KNP; your first game drive is a leisurely cruise with a professional safari guide, exploring the south-east corner in search of the Big 5 and elusive leopard that favour the rocky crags in the granite outcrops. Return by 8.30pm for a hearty dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Day two
Early wake-up for a morning game drive on a scenic route through mixed bushwillow woodlands. The hotel organises a packed breakfast planned for a mid-morning break at a popular picnic spot. The rest of the day is spent in southern Kruger where your guide will point out historical landmarks and, hopefully, sightings of wild dog and cheetah. Return to Numbi Hotel before sunset, in time to freshen up for a relaxing dinner at the restaurant.
Day three
After a scrumptious breakfast, it’s time to depart for a full-day tour of the Panorama Route. Your guide will take you to popular attractions like God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon with panoramic views of the escarpment and the Three Rondavels. Lunch for your own account at a favourite eatery in Graskop. The afternoon is spent exploring Sabie with visits to a stunning waterfall and maybe a stop-off for fine craft beer. Return to Perry’s Bridge where you can pick up gifts and snacks before returning to Numbi Hotel for dinner.
Day four
Pack the night before because it’s an early wake-up call to get into KNP for your last game drive. After a leisurely drive around the south-east corner, it’s time to leave KNP and head back to Gauteng.
